Driver charged over fatal head-on Kings Highway crash

The driver of a ute has been charged over a fatal crash that killed a man on the Kings Highway late last year.

Emergency services were called to a section of the highway at the rural locality of Warri, which is between the towns of Braidwood and Bungendore, at about 5:30 pm on 7 November 2024, a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Officers arrived to find a blue Toyota Aurion sedan and a white Volkswagen utility had collided head-on.

The front passenger of the Toyota, a 67-year-old man, had sustained head injuries and died at the scene, while the car’s driver, a 66-year-old woman, was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the ute, a 71-year-old woman, was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and mandatory testing.

“A crime scene was established and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident,” the police spokesperson said.

Following an investigation, police charged the 71-year-old woman on Friday (25 April) with dangerous driving occasioning death, causing bodily harm by wilful neglect while in charge of a motor vehicle, negligent driving occasioning death and negligent driving.

The woman is scheduled to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on 7 July.
